I offer 2 kinds of translation services. One is subject matter expert with rates of approx. 0.15 to 0.20 USD per word and general technical translation services. By fine tuning the translation process and limiting the QA to those errors reported by the Microsoft Multilanguage Tool, I can use my vast experience on technical matters in combination with the functionality of the CAT tools I own to offer much more aggressive rates. This requires the translation to be reviewed by a second pair of eyes! Here my rates go, depending on the kind of document, between 0.04 USD per word up to the rates for subject matter expert services. I would say the quality of the translation by content and terminology used is equal to that of the subject matter expert services offered; just the limitations of the QA tool are responsible for the need of a second pair of eyes but gaining a substantial additional throughput responsible for the lower rates!
Having worked for 15 years in the telecommunication and semiconductor industries I am a strong believer of applying industrial processes to the translation services. A smart combination of human intellect and the function offered by the latest CAT tools offers human made translations at very competitive rates.
